MRI for Seizures

Basics: what is an MRI for Seizures?

Seizures can be a frightening experience for those having them and those witnessing them, and finding the cause for recurrent seizures can be tricky. MRI helps diagnose neurological disorders because it can view the brain’s nerve tissue, and other areas that are difficult with other imaging modalities, without the worry of exposure to radiation. Unlike the hospital setting, here at Siker Medical, if one of our technologists sees something unusual on your scan, we take the time to investigate further. Our on-site radiologist is asked to view the sAcan on the spot, and extra sequences may be done to assure you the best results. Due to its high resolution, our 3T MRI scanner shows greater detail, allowing us to visualize the brain in such detail as to show subtle abnormalities that may make the difference for the correct diagnosis and better treatment. And our caring and highly experienced staff is here to make sure your imaging experience is a pleasant one.

Discussion of images above:

The following pictures are from an adult patient with recurring, unexplained seizures, lightheadedness and trembling that up to this point had escaped diagnosis. Routine MRI is typically insensitive to findings of Mesial Temporal Sclerosis. Our 3T MRI was able to view the relatively flat hippocampus structures, therefore viewing the subtle lesions that showed up on this patient’s scan. His doctor was then able to alleviate this patient’s fears with a correct diagnosis.
