Basics: What is an Abdominal Ultrasound?
An ultrasound of the abdomen uses the reflected sound waves to create images of the organs and other upper abdominal structures. Sometimes a physician will order an ultrasound of a specific organ (for example a kidney) in order to produce a more detailed evaluation of the organ. An abdominal ultrasound can also help to evaluate the following
- Abdominal aorta
- Liver
- Gallbladder
- Spleen
- Pancreas
